I started incorporating CBD Oil into my life a few years ago. I’ve struggled with anxiety for many years and while exercise, prayer and diet adjustments helped, it just wasn’t enough. Between personal challenges and witnessing so many young people I was working with riddled with anxiety, sleep issues, depression and other life altering issues I began to do my research on CBD. Whether meds weren’t providing the necessary relief or they were looking for an alternative before inquiring about medication, CBD was an alternative that left me exceedingly curious. I wanted to learn about when CBD oil makes life better. CBD oil’s benefits kept surfacing and I realized the more I learned the greater awe I had for something I believe is still underutilized.
What you need to know
I’ll start off saying that I am not a medical professional. What I am is a professional who has been in the mental health field for nearly twenty years and have watched mental health issues impede quality of life for too many human beings. About five years ago I kept hearing about CBD (Cannabidiol) and there was nothing negative coming up on the radar. So, I began digging and doing research.
Most CBD is extracted from the Hemp leaf, not the marijuana leaf. It can be extracted from the marijuana plant and, legally, it can contain a maximum of .3% THC to be legal. CBD is not psycho-active. It is not habit forming.
What does it do?
CBD interacts with the body through the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system actually regulates the body’s homeostasis, which is our general state of balance. This impacts function like mood, sleep, appetite, hormone regulation, pain and immune response. It’s thought to be an anti-oxident with potent ant-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties. In short, it can alleviate pain or discomfort.

When CBD Oil makes life better
So, what areas of discomfort can it help with? The answer, the list continues to grow and it’s fascinating. Here are just a few areas can assist with:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- ADD/ADHD
- Insomnia
- Arthritis
- Chronic Pain
I believe in advocating for ourselves. So if there’s an area of life where CBD oil can improve your quality of life, do some research. Contact your primary doctor and get their insight and professional opinion. I’d also chat with friends you know who may be utilizing this and how it has or hasn’t helped. The more we know, the more empowered we are. For myself, taking that personal step for my anxiety has improved my quality of life tremendously. I use it every single day and have no intention of stopping.
The Good Stuff
Sometimes we can get distracted focusing more on our external than internal. Whether it be the clothes we wear, car we drive or even the house we live in. We can stretch ourselves to find fulfillment in things that are nice, but the size or type of things we invest in can sometimes create unnecessary stressors in life. Where am I going with this? Keep our internal more of a priority than the external. Keep true to yourself. Take time to recharge and if things need to be addressed, address them.
When it comes to physical pain and our emotional wellness, we can’t compromise. Love yourself enough to find what works for alleviating pain and increasing quality of life. CBD may no be the fit for everyone and that’s ok. Do your research, ask questions, chat with your physician and do what works for you. But if you’re not in a good place, the most important thing is doing what is necessary to improve your functioning and quality of life.
Take time for you
Life can be stressful. Add mental illness, physical discomfort and challenging times and it can be even tougher. In all things, take time to breathe, etch time out for self care and do what is necessary to foster a state of mental and physical wellness in your own life.
Wishing you an abundance of peace, love and goodness.
