Storms are brewing.
It’s hurricane season in Florida. One second the skies are a fantastic blue with white fluffy clouds and the next minute the sky is an ominous gray. The weather is predictably unpredictable here. I love that. It’s a reminder how fragile we are as human beings and that storms not only happen in nature, but in life. As I drove in pitch darkness it reminded me of this truth and the choice we have in HOW we approach these storms. It’s realizing the importance in identifying the healthy approaches to the storms of life. It’s a requirement, not an option.
I love watching a good storm, but the enjoyment is a bazillion times greater when it’s from my house, sitting on the couch with a coffee vs driving on the highway. It’s a totally different experience.
Identifying healthy approaches to the storms of life
Storms happen with the weather and in life. It’s inevitable. But how we react and opt to handle our storm riding is a choice we must make. Do we prepare? Do we allow ourselves a reprieve? How do we face the inevitable?
Last night as I drove on the highway there was a deluge of rain. The roads were fine and then they weren’t. At this point my car and me, the driver, needed a break for safety and pause. My eyes and body needed a few minutes to recharge. Being on edge and so acutely focused for so long was exhausting.
Reprieve for the weary
It’s the same thing with us as human beings. We can sometimes try to push, continue and force ourselves through tumultuous times when we really need to pause, regain traction and recharge. I’ve been guilty of it in past and the consequences can be minor to severe and are simply not worth it.

To just plow through our gray clouds, our deluge of rain and wind isn’t fair or healthy. We can struggle with this. It can be tremendously difficult to fight off the voice of persistence that lands us in all the wrong places.
Know that it’s ok to pause, recharge and to simply allow yourself to breath. There will be times in life we will verbally have to remind ourselves of this. Say it out loud. Write it down. Make this truth a conscious reality. Know that you deserve a reprieve. You are human. You are fallible. Rest is a reward not a weakness.
Guess what, you’re awesome!
Cast pride, fear or the inner voice telling you that pausing isn’t an option to the wayside. You rock! Let me hear you say it! Say it out loud! Taking time for you through the storms is truly a requirement for a healthy, balanced and sustaining state of wellness. There’s nothing weird or negative about it.
Remember, your mindset holds significance. When we remind ourselves of our requirement for rest it’s a positive. When we pursue a positive mindset, it’s a positive. Allowing ourselves to know that when we face storms having a game plan for self care and outlook is a need (not a want) is a positive.
So wherever this post reaches you, regardless of your rain status..grab that cup of tea or coffee, drive with the windows down and go for a walk, bike ride or run and know you are worth it.
Get your today on, my friends!
